Next “TrackTown Tuesday” Slated for April 3 at the Eugene Hilton

Eugene, Ore. – (March 30, 2012) –– The April 3 “TrackTown Tuesday” meeting will be headlined by world champion high jumper Jesse Williams, OTC Elite’s Russell Brown, and Oregon athletes Johnathan Cabral and Becca Friday, the TrackTown12 Local Organizing Committee has announced.
Next Tuesday’s meeting will take place from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Eugene Hilton, located at 66 East 6th Avenue in downtown Eugene. Refreshments and appetizers will be provided beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Sponsored by Deschutes Brewery, Dutch Bros. Coffee, Dari Mart stores and Lochmead Dairy, “TrackTown Tuesday” is free and open to the public.
Williams, of Oregon Track Club Elite, is the reigning outdoor world high jump champion. He is also the current American indoor and outdoor gold medalist and has a personal-best clearance of 7 feet, 9.25 inches – which was cleared at Hayward Field during the 2011 USA Championships. He was a three-time NCAA high jump champion for USC, and is the defending U.S. Olympic Trials champion in the event.
Friday was a key performer in Oregon’s third straight NCAA Women’s Indoor championship. She led off a gutsy runner-up performance by the Ducks’ distance medley relay team and also finished fourth individually in the mile. Last year, Friday earned outdoor All-America honors by placing fifth in the 1,500 meters.
The evening of local track stars will also feature OTC Elite middle distance runner Brown and UO freshman Cabral – who is the top freshman 110 hurdler in the nation with a personal-best of 13.76 – along with UO Associate Athletic Director Vin Lananna, co-chair of TrackTown12 Local Organizing Committee.
Future “TrackTown Tuesday” meeting dates are May 1 at the Oregon Electric Station and June 12 at a yet-to-be-determined location.
Eight day all-session passes for the 2012 Trials are on sale now at www.TrackTown12.com. Single day tickets for the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team Trials - Track and Field will go on sale Friday, April 6, at 9 a.m. PDT.
